Ohara Koson

Ohara Koson (1877–1945) was a Japanese painter and print designer associated with the shin-hanga or “new prints” movement of the early 20th century. Born Ohara Matao in Kanazawa, he studied art and design at the Ishikawa Prefecture Technical School before training under painter Suzuki Kason. After moving to Tokyo in the 1890s, Koson created ukiyo-e triptychs and became best known for his elegant bird-and-flower prints, produced with several prominent publishers.
