Maeve Gilmore

Maeve Gilmore (1917–1983) was a British painter and writer whose work centred on an intensely personal interior world shaped by domestic life, motherhood, and surreal imagination. Trained at Westminster School of Art, she sustained a lifelong practice alongside family life, producing lyrical, symbol-laden paintings rooted in lived experience. In 2022, Studio Voltaire presented her first institutional exhibition, and works by Gilmore are now held in major international collections, including Femmes Artistes du Musée de Mougins, France; National Portrait Gallery, UK and Tate, UK
