Ethelbert White

Ethelbert White was an English painter, illustrator, and wood engraver. Having studied at St John’s Wood School of Art in London, he and his wife Betty spent their summers in the early 1920s travelling around Surrey and Sussex in a horse-drawn caravan. As keen musical performers, they collected folk songs during their journeys. A member of the Society of WoodEngravers and the Royal Watercolour Society, White exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and illustrated several books, including Henry Thoreau’s Walden.
