Biddy Picard (1922–2008) was born in Derbyshire and studied at the Slade School of Fine Art during the Second World War, alongside Welsh artist Kyffin Williams. After a brief time in North Wales, she settled in West Cornwall in the late 1940s, arriving by sea in a French crabber. A longtime member of the Newlyn Society, her evocative coastal paintings are widely collected across the UK and Europe.
